Nurse Visits
Immunizations:
Children 0-23 months must have been seen in our office for a well visit within the last 6 months in order to come in for nurse visit immunizations. Children 2-5 years must have been seen in our office for a well visit within the last year in order to come in for nurse visit immunizations. Children 6-18 years must have been seen in our office for a well visit within the last 2 years in order to come in for a nurse visit. Well visits are designed to diagnose and solve problems that may not be caught otherwise. If we only see children for shots with a nurse and a Provider does not examine them, these problems go undiagnosed and may lead to serious complications.
Strep Tests:
We really encourage patients to be seen by a provider if you suspect strep throat. When appropriate, we do offer a rapid strep test as a nurse visit. If your child tests positive, THEY WILL HAVE TO BE SEEN BY A PROVIDER BEFORE A PRESCRIPTION CAN BE WRITTEN. YOU MAY HAVE TO WAIT TO FIT INTO A PROVIDER’S SCHEDULE. We typically require 2 confirmed cases in a household, at least one of them in our office before we will prescribe an antibiotic over the phone.
Weight Checks:
If weight is an issue for your baby, you should be seen by a Provider. Providers may write an order for a nurse visit weight check. This order gives specific guidelines based on your baby’s weight and feeding habits, but does not require you to be seen if the weight falls within the limits set by the Provider. If the baby falls outside the limits, they need to be seen that day and will have to be fit into a Provider’s schedule. A visit charge will be submitted to your insurance company.
